Lyon, France, and the Fête des Lumières (11th of December 2010) - Part II

"Thank you, Mary!"  The city of Lyon expressed its gratitude in a delightfully beautiful way.

The Fourvière Basilica

The Cathédrale St-Jean

The Cathedral was built between 1180 and 1480. The architectural style is Gothic with Romanesque elements. Henri IV met and married Maria de Medici here.  The Cathedral sits at the foot of Fourvière Hill in Vieux Lyon.

Place Bellecour

The Place Bellecour is largest clear square in Europe. The statue in the foreground is that of Louis XIV.

Tour de la Charité (Tower of Charity)
Place Antonin Poncet

La Source de la lumière

The completely dried up fountain was flooded with lights.  The vivid colors highlighted its architecture.  Note the throngs of people at the bottom of the photos.  It felt like there was one massive public concert.
