Lausanne

Discover Lausanne...

The photograph above was taken from just inside the doors of the Cathedral. The heavy drapery blocks out the cold winter wind. In this particular photograph, a churchgoer just entered the Cathedral leaving the drapes slightly ajar. Peeking through the drapery is the stained glass window that adorns the main entrance of the cathedral.

The Cathedral sits at the top of the hill in Old Town Lausanne.  Built in the 13th century, it is the biggest in Switzerland and is widely regarded as its most impressive piece of Gothic architecture.

The Cathedral's stained glass windows (Rose Window) has 105 panels. Together they tell the story of the medieval world.

Photograph of the afternoon sun shining through the stained glass windows and on to one of the Cathedral's pillars.

The organ, with six thousand pipes, is also quite impressive.

I read that the Cathedral's tower has beautiful views of Lausanne. Unfortunately, it was closed to the public because of the snow.

The weekend wayfarer left his holiday greetings on the Cathedral's bulletin board.  Maligayang pasko!
